Routers

Units those pass data in a computer network are identified as Computer Network Devices. These devices are termed as Network Equipment as well, Inter Working Unit (IWU) or Intermediate System (IS). Units those receive or generate data are called data terminal equipments or hosts. Some Common basic network tools are Gateway, Router, Bridge, Switch, Hub, Repeater etc.
A Computer Networking Device that buffers and sends data packets across an inter-network toward their destination through a procedure which is identified as Routing is called Router. This process takes place at 3rd layer (Network Layer for example, IP) of the OSI Seven Layer Protocol Stack.
Routers look like intersections. They act as a connection between more than one network to receive and send data among these routers. It is unlike a hub or a switch. A router works on 3rd layer of OSI Model, while a switch and hub on layer 2 and 1 respectively. Because of this, they work in different state of affairs. The first router was created at BBN. The first multi-protocol router was developed at Stamford University by William Yeager, who was a staff researcher in January, 1980. General computers can perform as a router but, high speed modern routers are highly dedicated computers, usually with additional hardware added to increase speed of both common routing functions such as forwarding packet data and dedicated functions, such as IPsec encryption.
Routers are manufactured by a lot of manufacturers. Some of them are 3Com, Alcatel, Adtran, Billion etc. Almost all the Network Operating Systems consist of essential software to enable routing. Some particular distributions are designed to perform routing, act as NAT Gateways and Firewalls. Some of them are LEAF Project, FREESCO, Coyote Linux, m0n0wall, SmoothWall etc.
In telecommunications and computer networking, route flapping takes place when a router shows a destination network instead of another. It is caused by pathological situation such as, software errors, hardware errors, unreliable connection, configuration errors etc. within the network which result some reachability messages to be repetitively displayed and withdrawn. The most general reasons of route flapping are intermittent problems and configuration problems in network connections. It often compels a router to recalculate preferred or new route for a specific network. Many routers are available in the market to provide a user the capability of routing traffic between more than one computer. As routers are growing at an alarming rate, some software can perform routing as well. Before buying a router, a user should have detailed research on routers. Before starting a research, a user should ask himself/ herself some questions. It depends on how many clients will form network, which features are they looking for and do they require to browse the internet from other rooms in his/ her place via Wi-Fi technology.
