Hub is an essential network component that like between several terminals to sew them in a single string. To be more specific, a hub is a connection point common for the devices in a network. Unlike other hubs, switching hubs facilitate load balancing as well, which includes the even distribution of communication and processing among the network so that no specific device is over verified. Since it is not easy to predict the request number that a server receives, load balancing is of utmost importance for the proper distribution of the same. Some newer versions of switching hubs support the fast Ethernet (up to 100 Mbps) long side traditional Ethernet (up to 10 Mbps) ports. This offers the administrator to design and maintain a consistent, fast Ethernet network even with high traffic congestion.
But distinction to be made here among routers, switches and hubs. Although sometimes they are all accumulated into a same server, their function really varies to some extent. Both of them works in handling frames of data that must be first amplified and then transported through the channels to the pc that is designated. But their deference lies in the method of framing those data and the delivery arch.
In contrast to switches and hubs, routers are completely different component. The main job of hubs and switches being transmitting the frames, the router instead, routes the packets to some other network up to and until that packet moves into its destination.
To recapitulate, hubs join together the segments of a Ethernet network. It a vital component of the server without which the network is never imagined to be glued together.
